On Sunday, March 22, 20 lawyers, law students, humane educators and animal advocates gathered at the MSU College of Law, to discuss the principals of humane education, and to learn a series of 4 lesson plans geared toward 4th and 5th graders.
Thanks to the MSU College of Law Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, for hosting us at the law school; and to the State Bar Animal Law Section who co-sponsored the event.
Meena Alagappan, Executive director of HEART, Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers; and Kim Korona, HEART’s Program Manager led the training.
“The training helped me see how the principals of humane education can be put into practice.
I can’t wait to put it to use in my neighborhood
elementary school!”
One participant, who works as a humane educator at a humane society, offered to have others come along with her when she teaches. Another attendee is planning to open a tutoring/daycare business, and wants to incorporate humane education into her program, A recently retired attorney is eager left with plans to contact teachers about getting into their schools.
AfA is setting up a network to keep the participants in touch with each other and motivated, and to keep the momentum going.
